Morgan Quinn
Morgan Quinn is a multi-instrumentalist producer, composer, arranger and band leader with over a decade of national touring and composition experience. Born in Arlington Heights, IL, Morgan grew up in the Northwest suburbs of Chicago before relocating with his family to Portland, OR. As a child he studied clarinet and saxophone with Tom Cheek, as an adult he studied jazz theory and saxophone technique with former Portland State University professor David Valdez, and is self-taught on a variety of other instruments.
Morgan began his professional career shortly after attending the University of Oregon by embarking on a whirlwind Kerouac-esque street performing adventure, subway busking and sitting in at small clubs from New York City to San Fransisco. The journey led him to joining Portland-based psychedelic soul-rock band NIAYH(Now is All You Have) in 2009. He returned to Portland to write and perform with NIAYH and begin his career as a freelance musician.
Since then Morgan has been an active member of over twenty bands, playing styles from folk to afro-beat, jazz to EDM. He has performed or arranged on over forty albums and singles and played on dozens of national tours in venues like Brooklyn Bowl(NYC), The Fillmore (SF), The Fonda Theater (LA) and Concord Music Hall (CHI). With diverse chops Morgan’s projects have opened for legends like Talib Kweli, Allen Stone, Redman, Rebirth Brass Band, 311, and Beats Antique. In 2016 Morgan co-founded and composed for jazz fusion project Cloud Six, whose 2018 eponymous debut album was well received by Northwest jazz critics and radio stations. He is also a staple of the summer festival circuit, from years of performing with bands like MarchFourth, WORTH and High Step Society at festivals across the US and Europe including Waves Festival (Vienna, Austria) Lightning in a Bottle (CA), High Sierra Music Fest (CA), What The Festival! (OR) and Burning Man (NV).
When the 2020 pandemic put live music on hold, Morgan turned to studying electronic production, and combined the wide variety of styles and instruments he had picked up over the years into a single project under his own name. “The Drip Series”, (Jan 2023) the debut release of this new project, brings electronic sounds together with live instrumental arrangements to create a warm and modern vibe, breathy saxophones commingling with ethereal synthesizers. Morgan continues to tour, record and create, listening for the inspiration hidden in every moment…
